What is the ruling on one who swore by Allah and then by divorce to return money to his wife within a week, but was unable to fulfill it?

Swearing an oath by divorce results in divorce, according to the majority of scholars, if the condition sworn upon occurs. Therefore, a divorce has occurred for your wife due to the passing of the week without her repaying her debt. If this is the first or second divorce, you may take your wife back before her 'iddah (waiting period) expires by saying: "I take my wife back," or by having intercourse with her. You must also pay an expiation for breaking an oath.
