What is the ruling on marrying a non-Muslim woman, and does the marriage become void upon knowing that, and what is the proper course of action if the wife embraces Islam after the contract is rendered void, and what are the legal procedures followed in Egypt?
Faith is based on firm conviction, and doubt concerning it is considered apostasy from Islam. If a Muslim doubts the existence of Allah, he exits the fold of faith. If the spouses were not praying at the time of the marriage contract, then repented and became steadfast in prayer, their marriage is valid, and there is no need to renew it. If the wife was diligent in prayer and the husband was not, then the contract must be renewed. However, if the contract was made while one spouse was Muslim and the other an apostate, the contract is null and void. Similarly, if one of the Muslim spouses apostatizes after the contract, the marriage between them is dissolved if the apostate does not return to Islam. If the contract was null and void, it must be re-established after the wife returns to Islam with her guardian's consent. It is recommended to discuss with the wife to understand the cause of her doubt and attempt to remedy it, otherwise, her guardian must be informed.
