Is the saying of Allah the Almighty: {That [Joseph] might know that I did not betray him in [his] absence and that Allah does not guide the plot of betrayers} the saying of the wife of Al-Aziz or the saying of Joseph, peace be upon him?

The commentators differed regarding the speaker of the phrase: "That [was said] that he might know that I did not betray him in [his] absence." It was said that it was spoken by the wife of Al-Aziz to clarify to her husband that she had not actually betrayed him, and she confessed so that he would know her innocence, and that the soul is indeed inclined to evil, except for those on whom my Lord has mercy. This opinion is the strongest and most befitting of the story's context. It was also said that it was spoken by Yusuf (peace be upon him) to let Al-Aziz know of his innocence and that he had not betrayed him concerning his wife. Both opinions are plausible, but its being the words of Al-Aziz's wife is more consistent with the context of the verses.
