Is continuity in the fast of David a condition until death, and does breaking the fast on a few specific days or fasting the entire month of Sha'ban affect the nature of this fast?

The fasting of David (peace be upon him), which involves fasting one day and breaking fast the next, proves its merit for those who adhere to it for a lifetime or a specific period, and it is not a condition to continue it for life. General evidence establishes reward in proportion to the fasting performed. The merit of this fasting is not severed by its interruption due to temporary reasons such as honoring a guest, or on days when fasting is forbidden (like Eid and the days of Tashreeq), or due to travel, illness, and menstruation. Nor does fasting on consecutive sunnah (definition) days (such as Ashura and the six days of Shawwal) sever its merit; rather, it is recommended to fast them. Fasting most of Sha’ban is better than fasting one day and breaking fast the next during it, and the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the most perfect.
