It is permissible to acquire artistic paintings that bear the name of Majesty (Allah), or the name of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or the names of the Companions, or the symbols of Islam, as long as they do not involve imitation or resemblance to the people of innovation. As for paintings that bear photographic images, scholars have differed regarding their ruling, and the most probable opinion is that they are permissible due to the absence of the reason for prohibition in them.
