Why are there twelve recommended takbirat in the Eid prayer before Al-Fatiha, and what is their benefit and meaning as distinct from the obligatory prayers?

The fundamental principle concerning acts of worship ( 'ibadat) is tawqif, meaning they are to be performed strictly as prescribed. Therefore, one must worship Allah according to what He and His Messenger have commanded, especially regarding theanner of prayer, fasting, and Hajj. The additional takbirat in the Eid prayers are among the things legislated by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and it is incumbent upon us to believe, submit, and obey. For devotion takes precedence over rationalization. It is not for the servant to interfere in Allah's affairs concerning worship; rather, he must know what has been legislated and act upon it, with certainty that everything Allah has legislated is for a wisdom and benefit, as He is All-Wise and All-Knowing. This is confirmed by His, the Almighty's, saying: "There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern," and the Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "Pray as you have seen me praying," and "Take your rituals [of Hajj] from me."
