Some scholars view the prostration of gratitude (sujud al-shukr) as a prayer, and thus stipulate ritual purity (tahara), facing the qibla, uttering the takbir, and saying the taslim for it. Others, however, consider it an act of worship and not a prayer, thus not stipulating these conditions. This latter opinion is moreWEIGHTY due to the lack of evidence for stipulating purity or facing the qibla. Nevertheless, it is preferable to perform them to avoid scholarly disagreement.
