Is the period during which bleeding stops on the first and second days of menstruation considered part of the menstrual period, and is prayer obligatory during it? A woman must stop praying when she sees blood during a period suitable for menstruation. If she sees purity, she performs ghusl (definition) and prays, and she is considered to be in a state of purity. If blood returns, she is considered menstruating again and stops praying and fasting, as long as the total number of days of bleeding and the interspersed days of purity do not exceed fifteen days (the maximum duration of menstruation). The period of purity between two instances of bleeding is a valid purity, and this situation is called "talfīq" (combining), where the period of purity is counted as part of the menstrual period.
