What is the ruling on one who claims to marry off spinsters by placing a lock on their head and reciting over it, then mixing honey with coffee and dipping the key of the lock into it, then anointing the forehead of the concerned woman three times, then passing it under her feet, and ordering the lock to be placed opposite the door of her house?

This method is charlatanism, with no basis in Islamic law or common sense. A Muslim must rely on Allah alone, as it resembles the amulets that polytheists used to hang, which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade, saying: "Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk (polytheism)."

Incantations (ruqyah), amulets (tama'im), and love charms (tiwalah) are all forms of shirk because they rely on illusory means. Means are of two types: those sanctioned by Islamic law (like the Quran and supplication) and tangible means (like physical medications). Anything not belonging to these two categories is not permissible to rely upon.

Therefore, it is incumbent upon a Muslim woman to rely on Allah for marriage, to make supplication, and to be pious, for piety provides an exit and sustenance from where one does not expect.
