Who is Ali bin Sultan Muhammad al-Qari, and is he trustworthy to acquire knowledge from?
Mulla Ali al-Qari, a jurist, scholar, and Qur'an reciter, was born in Herat around 930 AH. He moved to Mecca, where he settled and studied, and he died there around 1014 AH. He was a Hanafi by , known for his piety and asceticism, earning his living by the labor of his own hands. Each year, he would write a copy of the Qur'an and sell it to sustain himself. Scholars praised him extensively for his mastery of both rational and transmitted sciences, and his expertise in hadith, , and qira'at. He was fair in his assessment of Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim, though he was influenced by the Maturidi school in some issues concerning divine attributes. He authored numerous works, including "Tafsir al-Qur'an" and "Mirqat al-Mafatih."
