Is ablution a condition for the Prayer of Repentance, even if one is already in a state of purity?

The Shari'ah encourages the repentant person to perform ablution (wudu'), pray two rak'ahs, and seek forgiveness, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There is no servant who commits a sin, then performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs, then seeks Allah's forgiveness, except that Allah forgives him." Ablution, prayer, and seeking forgiveness are among the means of expiating sins. If the sinner is already in a state of ablution and nothing that nullifies ablution has occurred, then it is not a condition for him to repeat ablution for the two rak'ahs of repentance. Rather, it is recommended for him to do so, because sin does not invalidate ablution. His prayer is valid without renewing ablution.
