As long as blood is present in the vagina, visible on a finger or a cloth, it is considered menstrual blood, and prayer and fasting are to be abstained from during this period. If less than the minimum period of purity (fifteen days) has passed since her last menstruation, she must abstain from prayer and fasting upon seeing this blood. When she becomes pure, either by the cessation of blood or by seeing the white discharge, she should perform and pray. If she fasted while menstruating, she must make up those days.
