Is estrangement between female friends forbidden if caused by a misunderstanding that led to a rift, and is it permissible to initiate congratulations and an apology after a period of estrangement?
The has prohibited discord and abandonment for more than three [days/nights], and you must maintain ties with the woman if there is no harm to you in doing so, and if there is no legitimate Sharia-based benefit in abandoning her. The majority of scholars believe that abandonment ceases with a mere greeting, while others hold that it does not cease except by returning to the original state [of relations]. Some have gone further, stating that correspondence and messaging suffice to remove the abandonment. Sending a message for congratulations and apology is commendable, and there is no (guidance-seeking prayer) for that which is commendable. One must be wary of the danger of emotional relationships before marriage.
