Is a husband entitled to order his wife to break a voluntary fast, knowing that he has not yet consummated the marriage with her, and is there a sin upon him for doing so?

It is not permissible for a woman to observe a supererogatory fast while her husband is present except with his permission, due to what has been reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Some scholars have considered her fasting without his permission a grave sin, and the husband has the right to break her fast. The Malikis, however, restricted the permissibility of breaking her fast to intercourse only, excluding eating and drinking, because the need for her arises from sexual intimacy. Therefore, you have the right to prevent your wife from observing voluntary fasts, and there is no sin upon you, except according to the Maliki school of thought.
