Is it permissible for a man to remain in contact and exchange greetings and inquire about the well-being of women who have not worked with him for years, or mothers of students whose studies with him concluded decades ago, knowing that they are audacious enough to call in the middle of the night to discuss matters unrelated to work, but merely to confide, laugh, and joke, with some of them expressing their longing for him and stating that he holds a dear place in their hearts, and with an abundance of mutual flattery between him and them?
If the husband communicates with foreign women in an impermissible way, he must fear Allah and close the doors to temptation. It is not permissible for him to abuse his wife or threaten her because she forbids him from evil. We advise the wife to be patient and strive to reform her husband with gentleness and wisdom, and supplication, and not to seek divorce or khula'.
