Is there a linguistic rule to differentiate between the letters "Ḍād" and "Ẓāʼ"?

The difference between the letters Dhad (ض) and Dha (ظ) can be understood by knowing the articulation point (makhraj) and characteristics (sifat) of each. The Dhad (ض) is articulated from the side of the tongue and the molars next to it, and it is characterized by the qualities of isti'la (elevation), inṭibaq (adhesion), and istiṭala (lengthening). As for the Dha (ظ), it is articulated from the tip of the tongue and the tips of the upper incisors. It is recommended to learn these letters orally from a proficient teacher, especially when reciting the Quran.
