It has not been reported that the Companions performed Hajj on behalf of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and had it been good, they would have preceded us to it. Therefore, performing Hajj on his behalf is an innovation (bid'ah). It is not permissible to perform Hajj on behalf of all the Prophet's family, peace and blessings be upon him, at once with a single Hajj, due to the impermissibility of deputizing for several individuals with one Hajj. However, performing Hajj on behalf of one of them is permissible after the one performing Hajj has already performed Hajj for himself.
