Is it obligatory to mention the name of Allah in the heart around the clock, and is this the method of Al-Hasan Al-Basri, and what is meant by abundant remembrance and the verses mentioned?
Firstly, the Holy Qur’an encourages abundant remembrance of Allah and His glorification, morning and evening, and the continuous remembrance in all states and times, due to its great virtue and reward. Scholars have agreed that the intended meaning of abundant remembrance is perseverance in the prescribed remembrances at their various times and in their different circumstances.
Secondly, there are no religious texts that obligate a servant to remember Allah every moment and second, for this is something humans cannot bear. The Prophet, peace be upon him, sought forgiveness a hundred times a day for the heedlessness and lapses that would affect his heart from constant remembrance.
Thirdly, what some people mention, that the noble Companions used to remember Allah with every part of their bodies, is an invalid exaggeration with no basis. They were human beings who ate, drank, bought, sold, and mixed with people. Perfection lies in dividing time between worship, self-reckoning, contemplating Allah's creation, and fulfilling human needs, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "An hour for this, and an hour for that." Likewise, what is attributed to Al- Al-Basri regarding a special method of remembering Allah with breaths has no basis.
