Is it permissible for us, as children, to visit and keep company with an unjust father who does not pray or fast, and has committed acts such as blaspheming the Divine Essence, oppressing relatives, abandoning his wife, and dealing in usury, despite suffering a stroke that has weakened him?

A person should observe two significant principles in their relationship with their father:

First: The obligation of honoring one's parent and maintaining kinship ties, and the prohibition of severing them: The obligation to honor one's parent does not cease, no matter how much they might mistreat or wrong you, unless doing so would cause certain harm to the child. Honoring parents is obligatory even if they disagree or are estranged.

Second: The obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evil upon him: The relationship of sonship does not negate this obligation; rather, holding parents accountable is a part of perfecting one's dutifulness towards them, but while observing the guidelines for admonishing them. Part of complete dutifulness is inviting him to repentance, rectifying injustices, preventing him from wrongdoing, and being patient with him.
