What are the comprehensive objectives of the Holy Qur’an?

Ibn Ashour summarized the objectives of the Qur’an into eight matters:

1. Rectifying Belief and Teaching Correct Doctrine: This is because it removes submission to anything without proof and purifies the heart from the delusions of polytheism, as in His Almighty’s saying: "So their gods availed them not, whom they invoked instead of Allah, when the command of your Lord came; and they added nothing to them but destruction." 2. Refining Morals: This is in accordance with His Almighty’s saying: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character," and the hadith (definition): "I was sent to perfect noble morals." 3. Legislating General and Specific Rulings: Allah Almighty said: "Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book with the truth so you may judge between the people by what Allah has shown you." The Qur’an encompasses everything by its clear explanation and by completing the religion. 4. Governing the Nation, its Rectification, and Maintaining its Order: This includes guidance towards forming a community, as in His saying: "And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided." 5. Stories and Accounts of Past Nations for Lesson and Instruction: Allah Almighty said: "We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur’an." 6. Teaching What Suits the Era of the Addressees and Preparing Them to Receive the Sharia (definition): The Qur’an further teaches the wisdom of intellectual balance and the soundness of deduction, and it elevates the status of knowledge. Allah Almighty said: "He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good." 7. Exhortations, Warnings, Admonitions, and Glad Tidings: This includes verses of promise and threat, and argumentation and debate with the obstinate. 8. The Inimitability of the Qur’an to Be a Sign Indicating the Truthfulness of the Messenger and its Challenge: Allah Almighty said: "Say, 'Then produce a surah (definition) like it.'"
