What is the ruling on abandoning the congregational prayer due to the prevalence of backbiting, malice, and hatred, and the absence of a regular imam in the mosque?

The absence of a permanent Imam for the mosque, or the presence of backbiting and animosity among the worshippers, is not an excuse for failing to attend congregational prayers. One should maintain prayer in the mosque and offer sincere advice to the worshippers, enjoining them from backbiting and mutual animosity and reminding them of Allah, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, that is [part of] the affairs [requiring] determination," and with the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Religion is sincere advice." Furthermore, efforts should be made to appoint an Imam who fulfills the Sharia (definition)-compliant conditions.
