Must a wife obey her husband by not going to stay overnight with her sick mother in the hospital, and would she be sinful if she did not go?

A wife must obey her husband if he forbids her from visiting her parents. This is evidenced by Aisha's request for permission from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to visit her parents, as well as Imam Ahmad's saying that a wife must obey her husband even if her mother is ill. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa stating that a woman is not permitted to leave her husband's house without his permission. A wife is not considered disobedient to her mother if she obeys her husband by not visiting her, for obedience to the husband takes precedence over obedience to parents. However, the husband should permit his wife to visit and care for her mother, as this is an act of righteousness and maintaining family ties.
