The name "Shurahbil" is of foreign origin, and it is mentioned that it is derived from Syriac. It is narrated from Ibn Abbas and Ali Zayn al-Abidin that every name containing "il" is in reference to God, such as Jibreel (Gabriel) and Israfil. Ibn Duraid cited Shurahbil as an example.
