It is not permissible for a Muslim to hang a cross or an image of the crucified Christ or Mary, because these are among the symbols of disbelief and involve imitation of the disbelievers. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He is not of us who imitates others," and "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." A Muslim must follow the straight path of Allah and avoid imitating disbelievers in their actions, clothing, and festivals.
