What is the ruling on opening a bakery or grocery store business where there is mixing of genders?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
There is no objection to operating a bakery, a grocery store, or any shop where permissible goods or services are sold. The occurrence of mixing between men and women in these places does not prohibit their establishment. However, if the mixing is in a (forbidden) manner that occurs among the workers, then the owner is not permitted to allow it. But if the mixing occurs among customers, there is no sin upon the owner of the shop. Rather, whoever knows about it should forbid it to the best of their ability.
