Is it permissible to adopt the view of the majority scholars who say that one who abandons prayer does not commit an act of disbelief, without considering other opinions?

If you are capable of examining the evidence and weighing between different opinions, then it is not permissible for you to adopt a disputed opinion without looking into the evidence of the other side and weighing between them. However, if you are an unlearned person and do not possess this capability, then there is no blame upon you for adopting the opinion of the majority. And do not forget that those who say that one who abandons prayer out of laziness is not a disbeliever still hold that he should be asked to repent and then executed or imprisoned until he prays.
