What is the interpretation of the saying, "Preserving bodies takes precedence over preserving religions," who said it, is it Islamically sound, and what is the wisdom behind it?

In Islamic law, religion takes precedence over preserving the body. The proof for this is that Allah legislated jihad to establish the religion and made it obligatory to cling to faith even if it leads to death. However, Allah is Merciful to His servants, as He has granted concessions for abandoning certain acts of worship that would harm the performer, such as tayammum (definition) for the sick, breaking the fast for the traveler, and uttering a word of disbelief when under duress, provided the heart remains firm in faith.
