Does an apostate get killed in Islam?

We have previously clarified the evidence for the obligation to kill an apostate. These legislations, including the punishments (hudud) and others, are issued by Allah, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. A Muslim may or may not comprehend the wisdom behind them, but they submit and are content, for Allah, the Almighty, says: "And it is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have [any] option in their decision," and He says: "The only statement of the [true] believers when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them is that they say, 'We hear and we obey.'" A Muslim must attend to what concerns them before responding to those who raise doubts. And these punishments (hudud) may only be carried out by the ruler or his deputy.
