The wife's maintenance is obligatory upon the husband. If the husband abandons maintenance, his wife has two options: to separate from him or to bear patiently with him. If she chooses to bear patiently, she is not obligated to allow him marital access, and she may leave his house; because marital access is in exchange for maintenance. The husband's situation and character must be considered when refusing marital access to avoid greater harms.
