Is it permissible for a Muslim to live with a pagan in the same house?

It is permissible for a Muslim to rent out his house to a non-Muslim for residential purposes, but it is forbidden to rent it out to someone who would use it as a place of disobedience, such as a house of worship or a place of immorality. It is preferable to rent the house to a Muslim. If a Muslim rents out his house to a dhimmi for residential purposes, and the latter then uses it for an act of disobedience, there is no sin upon the Muslim landlord. Some jurists have disliked this, and have been strict regarding selling and renting to non-Muslims, but the relied-upon opinion is permissibility with slight disapproval (karahah).
