Is it necessary to consider and renew the intention for Allah Almighty before every act of worship—obligatory or supererogatory—to avoid the transformation of worship into a daily routine, to ensure reward, and to avoid hypocrisy and doubt regarding the validity of the acts of worship?

The worker's reward is obtained through the intention of seeking nearness to Allah and His pleasure, for an act is inseparable from its intention, and seeking reward (ihtisab) is something additional to it. The perfection of seeking reward and being mindful of Allah's greatness increases the recompense. The routine performance of acts of worship can be overcome by self-accountability, contemplating Allah's names and attributes, and making oneself aware of Allah's knowledge of one's actions. As for showing off (riya'), one must fear it and strive for sincerity (ikhlas (definition)). Sincerity can be recognized by the servant's honesty with himself and his constant scrutiny of the hidden corners of his intention.
