Is it considered a lie if a person giving zakat or charity says that the money is from someone else, fearing that people will know the extent of his wealth or that his reward will be lost? And is there another way to avoid this?

Concealing charity is one of the best acts of worship, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said regarding the seven whom Allah will shade with His shade: "until his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent."

Lying is forbidden and impermissible except in cases of extreme necessity. There may be a need to conceal wealth. One who wishes to do so can use tawriyah (double entendre) and ma'arid (euphemisms), which is speaking words that have more than one meaning so that the listener understands something other than what the speaker intends. Imran ibn Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Indeed, in ma'arid there is room to avoid lying."
