ما هو حد القذف؟

The intent of qadhf (slanderous accusation) in the context of legal punishments is to accuse someone of zina (fornication/adultery) or liwat (homosexuality). This act is forbidden and considered a major sin if the accused is a chaste, honorable person. Allah has cursed the perpetrator in this world and the hereafter, and a great torment awaits them. Furthermore, scholars have unanimously agreed on the obligation of the hadd (prescribed punishment) for qadhf, which is eighty lashes for someone who slanders an honorable person, based on the verse: ﴿And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept any testimony from them ever. And those are the defiantly disobedient.﴾ (Quran 24:4). The wisdom behind its legislation is to prevent mutual accusations of indecency, safeguard people's honor, and protect their reputations.
