Is it permissible to insist and cause embarrassment when soliciting donations for building a mosque?
Building mosques and participating in their construction is among the greatest acts of worship that bring one closer to Allah. This importance is amplified in Western countries due to the facilitation of worship and the propagation of Islamic rituals, which may also contribute to thef entering of disbelievers into the faith. It is permissible to solicit donations for building mosques or for the needs of Muslims anywhere, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did. The solicitation of donations should be general, without causing embarrassment or insistence, leaving the matter to what Allah enables souls to achieve. Ibn Baz indicated that passing a collection box among worshippers might cause embarrassment and discomfort, and it is better to inform them of the box's presence without disturbing them.
