How can I repent from backbiting those who hate and envy me, and they are unaware that I backbit them, knowing that what I said about them is true?

Backbiting is forbidden by Islamic law, and one must repent from it. Among the conditions for repentance is to seek forgiveness from the person you backbit, as narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever has wronged his brother concerning his honor or anything else, let him seek his forgiveness today before there will be no dinar or dirham, and if he has good deeds, they will be taken from him to the extent of his wrong, and if he has no good deeds, then some of the evil deeds of his companion will be taken and put on him." Scholars have stipulated that seeking forgiveness is obligatory as long as it does not lead to a greater harm. Some scholars held the view of seeking general forgiveness without specifying the type of right, along with supplicating for the person, seeking forgiveness for them, and mentioning their good qualities.
