What is the ruling of Islam on a girl who refuses marriage and opposes her family in choosing a husband for no reason other than her desire to marry a specific young man whom she knew previously, bearing in mind that the family did not force her to marry and she has not yet found a suitable person?

A successful marriage is built upon choosing a righteous wife of good religious character, and marrying off a young man whose religiosity and character are approved. It is disliked for a girl to reject a suitor of good religious character and morals on the pretext of not knowing him, as this leads to forbidden acts. Rather, she should ask his family about him and perform the Istikhara prayer. She has the right to reject him if she does not feel comfortable with him, provided that repeated rejections do not occur. A girl must not establish a relationship with a man in the hope of marriage.
