A woman imitating a reciter (Qari') or a preacher (Da'i) is permissible if it is for improving the voice in recitation or for influencing the listener, provided that it does not involve imitating men in voice coarseness or similar qualities. However, if the imitation involves a resemblance to a man in her voice, then it is forbidden, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the men who imitate women and the women who imitate men." The intention to imitate is not a condition for its prohibition. One must also be careful not to be captivated by the sheikh or preacher.
