Is the questioner considered wronged and rewarded for breaking off his engagement to a religious girl for no apparent reason, despite his good character and trustworthiness, while he married another woman of bad character who does not maintain her prayers?

The engagement is a promise of marriage that should be fulfilled by both parties. However, it is permissible to annul it for a valid reason, such as a lack of comfort. What happened is better for you if you are patient and seek reward from Allah, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter, and this is not the case for anyone except the believer. If he is afflicted with a tribulation, he is patient, and that is good for him. If he is blessed with a bounty, he is grateful, and that is good for him." And Allah the Almighty says: "But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not."
