The question

What is the ruling on someone who suffers from obsessive thoughts of shirk and a thought comes to him during the opening supplication (Du'a al-Istiftah) at the word (Jaddak), suggesting the worship of God's grandfather or reliance on other than Him, while he clarifies his intention to rely solely on God during the prayer?

The answer

This ** carries no Shar'i ruling; rather, it is from the guile of Satan to divert you from the remembrance of Allah and prayer. It behooves the servant to demonstrate steadfastness, patience, and persistence in the remembrance of Allah and prayer; for by adhering to these, the guile of Satan is repelled. For its treatment, I recommend concentrating one's heart upon Allah during prayer, and to disregard and turn away from this *waswas*, paying it no heed, along with frequently engaging in the remembrance of Allah, reciting the Quran, and supplicating earnestly to Allah to remove what afflicts you. It is also advised to consult specialist doctors experienced in treating obsessive disorders.
