It is better for a Muslim to conceal voluntary charity to preserve sincerity, as Allah Almighty says: "And if you conceal them [i.e., charities] and give them to the poor, it is better for you." Also, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the one who gives charity secretly as one of the seven whom Allah will shade in His shade. As for obligatory Zakat, it is better to announce it. It is permissible to inform one's wife about charity, but it is better to keep it secret unless there is a legitimate benefit in disclosing it.
