What is Islam's view on vaccination against diseases?

Vaccination is permissible and may be recommended. There is no difference between it and seeking treatment for an illness that has afflicted a person. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, guided to protection from poison and magic, saying: "Whoever eats seven ajwa dates every morning will not be harmed by poison or magic on that day." This is similar to vaccination against disease.
