If a father does not spend adequately, then it is permissible for the mother to take from his money, without his knowledge, only what suffices her and her children whose maintenance is incumbent upon the father, according to what is customary. Anything beyond that is not permissible. If the mother takes more than her need, she is sinful, and it is not permissible for the children to take anything from this money except with the father's consent. The mother and father should be advised with kindness.
