What is entailed for someone who swore to fast the entire year—except for the forbidden days—if he slept before completing his studies, and then did not fulfill his oath for years?

If you swore that you would fast for a lifetime if you slept before completing your studies, and then you broke your oath, you must offer an expiation for the oath (kaffarat ). The expiation for an oath is to feed ten needy persons or clothe them, or to free a slave. If you are unable to do so, then you must fast for three days.
