If a lunar eclipse coincides with the Fajr prayer, the eclipse prayer (salat al-khusuf) should be performed first if there is sufficient time (approximately fifteen minutes), and the eclipse prayer should be lightened to allow the Fajr prayer to be performed at its appointed time. However, if the eclipse prayer would lead to delaying the obligatory prayer, then the obligatory prayer should be performed first, followed by the eclipse prayer as long as the eclipse is clearly visible. It is preferable to call for the eclipse prayer with "As-salatu Jami'ah" (Prayer is a congregation) to avoid confusion. If someone joins an imam who is performing the eclipse prayer intending to pray the obligatory prayer, and then realizes, they should change their intention to the eclipse prayer, due to the difference in their forms. But if they remain unaware and pray the obligatory prayer behind an imam performing the eclipse prayer, their prayer is not valid as an obligatory prayer and must be repeated. If the moon eclipses after the dawn breaks (after Fajr time begins), then the eclipse prayer is legislated, and it should be started before the Fajr prayer, with it being lightened.
