What are the etiquettes and duties of a host when inviting to a feast, as mentioned in the Prophet's biography (Sirah Nabawiyah) and the biographies of the Companions (Sir Sahabah)?

It is recommended for the host to observe the legal aspects and social customs in his invitations, including:

1. Not to invite only the rich, excluding the poor, unless it is a private invitation for specific individuals, not because of their wealth.

2. To seek out people of righteousness and piety, unless he intends to win over the unrighteous or has a valid reason.

3. To keep his feast free from forbidden things like musical instruments; otherwise, his right to have his invitation answered is forfeited.

4. To avoid boasting and showing off. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the food of those who compete with one another.

5. To choose a suitable time and place for the guests so as not to inconvenience them.

6. To give precedence to the elderly and people of merit when serving food.

7. To be cordial with the guests, welcome them, and share the food with them.

8. Not to insist that a fasting person break their fast, for the fasting person may pray for the host.
