Who is meant by His — the Most High’s — saying (Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off)?

Sūrat al-Kawthar was revealed to honor the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and to refute the claims of his enemies that his remembrance would be cut off. The Sūrah indicates that the one who hates the Prophet ﷺ is the most insignificant, humiliated, and whose remembrance and progeny will be cut off. Various narrations have been reported regarding the person concerning whom the verse was revealed, such as Al-ʿĀs ibn Wāʾil, ʿUqbah ibn Abī Muʿayṭ, Kaʿb ibn al-Ashraf, Abū Lahab, and Abū Jahl. Scholars are of the view that this verse does not refer to a specific individual but rather includes everyone who hates and opposes the Prophet ﷺ. For the remembrance of the Prophet ﷺ remains and is widely known, while the fate of his enemies is demise and obliteration.
