Is the claim of the existence of a hair of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and seeking blessings from it, authentic?
The Companions were keen to obtain the hair of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and to seek blessings from it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave his hair to Abu Talhah and distributed it among the people after shaving during the Farewell Pilgrimage. It was also narrated that Khalid ibn al-Walid used to place a hair from the forelock of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in his cap and seek blessings from it. Therefore, seeking blessings from his relics, peace and blessings be upon him, is permissible, but one must ensure the authenticity of attributing this hair to him, peace and blessings be upon him, in these times when deception and innovations have become widespread.
