What is the ruling on buying something stolen from a Christian or a Jew?

It is not permissible to buy something that has been stolen or usurped, even if the one from whom it was stolen is not a Muslim, because the properties of disbelievers are, in principle, inviolable. Whoever buys something that has been stolen or usurped must return it to its owner, and he has the right to reclaim the price from the seller. If the buyer knew of the theft at the time of purchase, he is sinful and must repent.
