What is the ruling on money earned from working in a bank that deals with usury (riba), and can the non-forbidden services provided by the bank be considered [permissible]? And what is the ruling on the wage of a cleaning worker in the same bank?
Working in a usurious bank is prohibited (), and this prohibition includes the scribe, the witnesses, and everyone who assists in it, such as the accountant, the auditor, the building guard, and the cleaner. The evidence for this is the : "Allah has cursed the one who consumes Riba (usury), the one who pays it, the one who writes it down, and the two who witness it," and the verse: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." Therefore, they must immediately leave their work in the usurious bank and repent to Allah. As for the salary of a usurious bank manager, it is unlawful (haram) because it is the result of prohibited work, and the presence of permissible services does not change this, as the ruling is based on the predominant aspect, which is usury.
