Does profuse vomiting nullify Wudu'?

Scholars differed regarding whether vomiting nullifies ablution (wudu') into two opinions. The first: It does not nullify ablution, whether little or much. This is the view of the Malikis, Shafi'is, and one narration from Ahmad, due to the absence of sound evidence mandating it, and because it is an discharge from other than the two private parts. The second: It nullifies ablution if it is much. This is the view of the Hanafis and the well-known opinion among the Hanbalis. They differed in defining what constitutes "much." Some said it is determined by custom, while others said it is what fills the the mouth. They cited the hadith of Abu Darda that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, vomited and then performed ablution. The more preponderant view is that vomiting does not nullify ablution, even if it is much, due to the weakness of the hadith of Abu Darda. Even if it were authentic, his action, peace and blessings be upon him, does not indicate obligation. The closer view is that performing ablution after vomiting is recommended, not obligatory, as chosen by Ibn Taymiyyah.
